BioTime Receives $1.9 Million Grant to Develop OpRegen for Dry AMD

June 1, 2018: By Jon Swedien

BioTime has received a $1.9 million grant from the Israel Innovation Authority, the company announced May 29.

It is the latest in a series of grants totaling $13 million that the authority has given the company, BioTime said.

BioTime said the grants are providing funding for the company’s development of OpRegen—a suspension of retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells delivered subretinally during an intraocular injection. The cells are intended to replace missing RPE cells.

OpRegen is currently in a Phase I/IIa clinical study, BioTime said.
