Robert Greenberg, MD, PhD

Robert Greenberg, MD, PhD, has resigned from the board of Second Sight Medical Products and left the company, the Sylmar, California, device maker announced April 9.

Greenberg founded Second Sight and served as president and CEO from 1998 to August 2015. He served as chairman from August 2015 to March 2018.

Second Sight manufactures and markets the Argus II Retinal Prosthesis System for patients with severe to profound retinitis pigmentosa.

The company is also developing the Orion Visual Cortical Prosthesis, which Second Sight describes has having the potential to restore useful vision to patients completely blinded due to many reasons, including glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, or forms of cancer and trauma.
