Johnson & Johnson Vision Surgical formally launched its Veritas Vision System on July 23, in conjunction with the 2021 meeting of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) in Las Vegas.
The company said it would offer live demos of the new system during the meeting in a wet lab at the Johnson & Johnson booth (#2813).
The Veritas gained US FDA 510(k) clearance in March 2021. The phacoemulsification system is an updated version of the company’s WhiteStar Signature Pro machine and OPO73 Dual Pump fluidics pack, which served as predicate devices.
The device performs phacoemulsification, diathermy, irrigation/aspiration, and vitrectomy functions.
The company, a division of New York-based Johnson & Johnson, said enhancements to this next-generation model include hybrid fluidics technology that minimizes post-occlusion surge to protect intraocular structures and improve chamber stability; and intelligent occlusion sensing technologies that automatically respond to occlusions to preserve a stable chamber, even in dense cataract cases.
The new system also has improvements to the wireless remote control, foot pedal, and swivel handpiece, plus a redesigned exterior skin, a slightly larger 19-inch touchscreen display, a continuous irrigation auto-off feature, and an updated Mayo tray design.
The Veritas is now available across the US, Europe, and select markets in the Asia Pacific region. It will be available later this year in Chile and Brazil, the company said.
